How to get access

  1. Accept our moderation rules (lol)

  2. Introduce yourself in #beta-request-access and ask for closed beta access.

  3. We’ll give you the Closed Beta Tester role, which will give you access to the Closed Beta category in Discord.

  4. Create an account at the URL specified in the #closed-beta-url. One of the founders will give you the Standard subscription tier (free throughout the beta).

  5. Go crazy, have fun 😃

What you’re testing (in plain English)

Kumi is our attempt at making Japanese progress feel less like a messy pile of flashcards and more like an actual path.

Not just “do more reps,” but “learn the right stuff, that you actually care about, then actually remember it, then see your progress.”

If you’ve ever felt:

  • “I passed a JLPT but I’m afraid to talk”

  • “I’ve seen these kanji but don’t know what they mean together in a word”

  • “I really need to learn Japanese to do [your wild niche interest]”

That’s the exact pain we’re building for.

What to expect during closed beta

  • This is closed on purpose. We want fast feedback loops, not a huge crowd yet.

  • We’re going to be iterating quickly. Things may change while you’re using it.

  • If something feels off, tell us. If something feels great, also tell us. We’re building this with you.

  • Note: this beta is for testing only. Your account / progress won’t transfer to live, and beta data will be wiped when we launch.

Pricing and transparency

During the closed beta, you’ll get full access to our standard subscription feature set, completely free.

We’ll be asking our testers what they think the ecosystem should cost compared to what we have in mind, and move forward with a price that best suits it.

We’ll be upfront with pricing as we move toward launch, but for now, the goal is simple: Go crazy and break everything (🔨😭)!

A quick note on timing

Next week is mostly our QA push.

May 4 is the date we feel good about for opening beta.

We are not setting a hard “official launch” date yet, because we want room to absorb feedback and do it right.

If you’re down, we’d love you in the room

We’ll see you there!
